golfing in the area. The nearby hamlet of Callicoon holds an outdoor farmers market in its creekside park every Sunday during the summer. Farmers bring organic meat, produce, jams, flowers, ice cream and more from all over the area, and locals and visitors alike gather just as much for socializing and catching up with friends as for the food!

As you drive between these tiny towns, you’ll notice many of the farms operate their own stands, selling fresh cider, honey, wool, and maple syrup to anyone passing by.

While the beautiful surroundings lead most to assume that Hills Country Inn draws its name from the landscape, it comes, in fact, from the original owners. The Hills converted their farm into a boarding house to help accommodate the growing number of vacationers in the early 1900s. They ran it until 1974, when Anna and Walter Ambrozewicz, regular guests, happened to gush to the aging owner over about their love for the place. “Then why don’t you buy it?” asked the owner.

Ever since, it has been run by the Ambrozewicz’s.
